Moana Park Merlot Malbec

2010 Moana Park Estate Series Merlot Malbec

Winemaker:  Dan Barker

Vintage: 2010

Cellaring: This wine is ready for immediate consumption but will continue to develop and complex with some bottle age up to four or five years.

Tasting Notes:

This wine is a rich blend of Merlot and Malbec from one of the very best vintages New Zealand has seen. The wine displays lifted notes of ripe cherries, plums, chocolate and violets. The palate is rich, ripe and full bodied with soft supple tannin and shows bouquet reminiscent of blackberry, fruitcake, mulberry and cedar with complex notes of spice all melded together from 12 months maturation in French oak barriques.

This wine has been handled as minimally as possible and is therefore unfiltered, with extended cellaring fine sediment may form.

Wine-
maker's Notes:

Grown on the dry river shingle of the Gimblett Gravels and the Dartmoor valley. This wine is fermented in small batches. Open top and traditionally hand plunged, the wine was pressed off in a traditional basket press, before going into seasoned oak barrels for 12 months maturation. No fining or Filtration has been done to this wine.
