Moana Park is a privately owned, small, boutique winery in the pursuit of creating New Zealand's finest wines which pay homage to some of the very best viticultural sites throughout New Zealand. Moana Park is situated in the progressive wine-growing region of New Zealand's Hawke's Bay.
The winery and Moana Park brand was developed in 2000 and has only completed ten vintages. The original owner had been a contract grape grower for nearly 30 years and saw the opportunity to diversify and produce quality wines from his already proven vineyards.
The new owners, Dan and Kaylea Barker are going to continue building the Moana Park brand through making and selling fine wine, providing consultation services to other vineyards and wineries in addition to process and making wine on behalf of their clients.
The concept of wines being made in the vineyard is fast becoming a cliché with wine producers all becoming increasingly vineyard orientated in the search for superior wines. Moana Park is no exception; with the proven history of the vineyards and the success of the wines Moana Park will continue to source grapes from the same vineyards with the added opportunity to source additional grapes from regions specialising in different varieties.
The initial thrust behind Moana Park was for it to become a successful boutique winery with cellar door sales being seen as its primary point of distribution. This thrust has resulted in the development of a cellar door facility which takes advantage of the wineries picturesque location in the heart of the ever growing Hawke's Bay wine trail. The winery is also expanding into selective export markets, where a palate match is being sought for its high quality wines. On the domestic front, the growing distribution strategy is seeing Moana Park wines more widely available in quality restaurants and select wine stores.
