Little Big Winery
Moana Park is a little winery in Hawke’s Bay’s Western Hills with surprising dimensions – a surprisingly long history, an expanding reputation and a winemaker with an over-sized passion. Dan Barker loves his northern Rhone varieties, a devotion rewarded with four stars in this edition and Top Five status in last issue’s tasting. Both wines were also rated best buys.
Moana Park Syrah
Dances like a star…. A la Temepara rather than monty. Vibrant was a common descriptor for this wine from a lesser known Hawke’s bay producer. It’s youthful (the tastings top rating wine from 2007 Vintage) and fresh, alive with high stepping floral and spice notes.
Moana Park Viognier
Subtle honey suckle and toasted notes greet the nostrils. The palate is light fresh, ripe pear characteristics to the fore, and quite soft in texture. This would serve very well as an aperitif alongside smoked salmon.
Gourmet Traveller
Moana Park – This boutique operation produces small volumes of high quality wines!!!
New Zealand Vineyard Tours –
Moana Park - currently produces some of the Top Reds in New Zealand. Across the board in Hawke’s Bay Moana Park rates in the Top three in regards to the Best Red wine available, certainly comparable to if not better than some of the big guns. My Top three are Moana Park, Matariki and Trinity Hill.
Hawke’s Bay Today
Moana Park wins Top Hawke’s bay Sauvignon Blanc second year in a row, with silver at the Bragato Wine Awards. This rates the Moana Park Sauvignon Blanc in the top twelve single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand.
